Wedding Bands in South West

Rural venues are the backbone of weddings in the South West, and that brings particular questions for live music. Barns, farm marquees and coastal venues may have limited power, so ask both the band and the venue what supply is available, and whether a generator is needed for a marquee in a field.

Noise is another consideration. Many venues use sound limiters, especially where neighbours are close, and some set a strict finish time for amplified music. A band that is used to working with limiters will adjust their volume and set-up so the music still has energy without cutting out.

What to agree in advance

• The number and length of sets; many bands play two or three sets in the evening, with a playlist or DJ service in the breaks.
• Arrival, sound-check and finishing times, agreed with the venue.
• Space for the band, including a dry, sheltered area for equipment in a marquee.
• Whether they need a hot meal and somewhere to change.
