Capturing Personalities- Not Poses!
Winchester's long, low cathedral and its peaceful close are at the centre of many wedding portfolios from the city. A short walk away, the River Itchen winds through the water meadows, offering riverside paths, willows and a timeless English feel. The statue of King Alfred at the bottom of the High Street and the medieval Great Hall add more historic options.
The South Downs National Park lies just east of the city, with chalk hills and wide views for couples who want open countryside.
The centre is compact and walkable, which makes it easy to fit portraits between ceremony and reception if your venue is nearby. Weekend shoppers and visitors can make the High Street busy, so quieter lanes and the water meadows are good alternatives.
The meadows are lush in late spring and summer, and autumn brings warm colour to the trees. Low winter light on the cathedral stone is beautiful but short-lived, so plan outdoor portraits early. Riverside ground can be soft after rain.
The cathedral close, the Great Hall and some private land have their own rules for professional photography. Ask your photographer to check locations in advance.
Photographers across Hampshire cover Winchester, and summer Saturdays tend to fill a year or more ahead. Midweek and winter dates usually give more choice.
