Capturing Personalities- Not Poses!
Southampton's medieval town walls are among the most complete in England, and the Old Town around them gives wedding photographs a sense of history. The waterfront and Mayflower Park look out over Southampton Water, where passing ships add scale, and the city's central parks offer lawns and mature trees.
For many couples, though, the biggest draw is the New Forest on the western edge of the city. Open heathland, ancient woodland and free-roaming ponies make for natural, unposed portraits. To the east, the ruins of Netley Abbey sit close to the shore.
The New Forest is a national park, and professional photography on some land there may need permission. The same applies to historic sites and private estates. A photographer who regularly works locally will know what is needed.
Autumn in the New Forest is especially photogenic, and late summer brings flowering heather on the heaths. Waterfront locations can be breezy. In winter, plan outdoor portraits early, as daylight fades quickly.
Southampton's photographers cover much of Hampshire, from city hotels to forest and coastal venues. For a summer Saturday, approach your favourites a year or more in advance, and look for full wedding galleries rather than highlights.
