Load-in is the other big London question. Bands may need to unload on busy streets, use a goods lift or carry equipment up stairs, and parking can be scarce. Give the band clear directions, the venue contact and the access times, and check whether there are any charges they need to be aware of.

Planning the evening

• Agree the number of sets; two or three sets with breaks is common.
• Check the performance area is large enough for the line-up you want.
• Plan what happens in the breaks, such as a playlist run by the band.
• Confirm the hard stop time so the last song lands at the right moment.
