City or countryside

The West Midlands offers a real contrast. Birmingham and the Black Country have hotels, converted industrial buildings and canal-side spaces, with plenty of capacity for large weddings. Head out of the conurbation and the landscape opens up: Warwickshire has historic towns and Shakespeare's Stratford-upon-Avon, Worcestershire has the Malvern Hills, Herefordshire has orchards and the Wye Valley, and Shropshire has the Shropshire Hills and the Ironbridge Gorge.

Rural venues tend to be country houses, barns, farm settings and gardens, often with space for a marquee. Herefordshire and Shropshire can feel remote compared with the rest of the region, which is part of their appeal.

Getting there

The region sits at the heart of England's motorway network, with the M5, M6, M40 and M42 all nearby, and Birmingham Airport and Birmingham New Street serving guests from further afield. Rural venues in the far west may be a longer drive, so think about overnight stays.
