Wales packs mountains, coast and history into a compact country, and its wedding venues reflect that. In the north, Eryri (Snowdonia) and Anglesey offer mountain views and coastal settings, and the region is well known for its medieval castles. Mid Wales has quiet hills, farms and country houses. In the south and west, the Pembrokeshire Coast, the Gower peninsula and Bannau Brycheiniog (the Brecon Beacons) are all popular, while Cardiff, Swansea and Newport have hotels and city spaces.
Distances can be deceptive. Roads through the mountains and along the coast are often slow, so a venue that looks close on a map can take longer to reach. North and south Wales are a long way apart by road, so check where most of your guests are coming from.
Coastal and rural areas get busy in the summer holidays, so guest accommodation is worth booking early. Ask venues about rooms on site and the options for wet weather.
The law in Wales follows the same rules as England. Civil ceremonies take place at a register office or approved premises, and couples give notice at their local register office. Many couples include Welsh in their ceremony; ask your register office what is possible. Check all details with the register office for your venue.
Wedding UK currently lists 17 wedding venues covering Wales.
