Wedding suppliers in South Yorkshire

Planning a wedding in South Yorkshire

South Yorkshire is often thought of in terms of its cities and industrial heritage, but couples planning a wedding here soon find a wider picture. Sheffield sits right beside the Peak District, so moorland views and stone villages are a short drive from the city centre, while the countryside around Doncaster and Barnsley hides country houses, parkland and converted farm buildings.

What kind of wedding suits the area

City couples in Sheffield have plenty of options among hotels, restored industrial buildings and contemporary event spaces, which work well for relaxed, food-led celebrations. If you want a more rural feel, look west towards the Peak District fringe or to the estates and halls scattered across the county. Former mills and works buildings have become popular for couples who like exposed brick and big windows.

Travel and guests

The M1 runs through the county, and the M18 links Doncaster with the wider motorway network. Sheffield and Doncaster both have main line rail stations with fast connections to London and the north, which helps if many guests are travelling from afar. City hotels make accommodation straightforward; countryside venues may need you to organise taxis or a coach.

Before you book

• Visit venues on a weekday to see how they work in practice and to ask about the evening arrangements.
• Sundays and midweek dates often give better availability for photographers, bands and caterers.
• Give notice at your local register office, and remember that civil ceremonies must be held at a register office or approved premises. Your local registrar can confirm current timings.

Prices vary with the day of the week and season, so compare a few of the local suppliers listed above and ask what is included in each quote.
