Planning a wedding in Conwy

Conwy county runs from the seaside resorts of the north Wales coast up into the wooded Conwy Valley and the edges of Eryri (Snowdonia). The walled town of Conwy, with its castle standing guard over the estuary, is one of the best preserved medieval towns in Britain, and Llandudno's sweeping promenade beneath the Great Orme has been drawing visitors since Victorian times.

Setting the scene

Seafront hotels in Llandudno and Colwyn Bay are a long-standing choice for weddings, particularly for couples who want everything, including guest rooms, under one roof. Inland, the Conwy Valley around Llanrwst and Betws-y-Coed offers country houses, riverside settings and rustic venues with forest and mountain views. Farm and barn venues are scattered across the hills.

Getting there

The A55 expressway runs along the coast, linking the area with Chester and the north west of England, so guests from Manchester and Liverpool can arrive in a couple of hours by car. The north Wales coast railway stops at Llandudno Junction, Colwyn Bay and Abergele, and the Conwy Valley line runs inland towards Betws-y-Coed. Valley roads are slower, so build in extra time.

Llandudno is a busy resort, which helps with accommodation choice but means summer and bank holiday weekends fill fast. Spring and early autumn are often a good balance of weather and availability.
