Scottish landscapes have a way of stealing the scene, which is why so many couples come here for their photographs. Glencoe, the Cairngorms, Loch Lomond, the Isle of Skye, the beaches of the west coast and the streets of Edinburgh's Old Town all offer very different moods.
Because religious and belief ceremonies can be held almost anywhere in Scotland, some couples marry outdoors at a viewpoint or on a beach. If that appeals, your photographer can be a useful partner in choosing a location that is accessible, practical for guests and sheltered enough for the weather on the day. Check the ceremony side with your celebrant and the local registrar.
In midsummer, the far north has very long evenings, giving a lot of flexibility for portraits. Winter days are short, but low sun and snow on the hills can be beautiful. Weather in the mountains and on the west coast changes quickly, so build a little flexibility into your timeline.
Photographers who specialise in outdoor and elopement weddings are often booked well ahead, especially for summer. Ask about travel to remote areas, any overnight stays, what happens if access is affected by weather and how many hours are included. Prices vary with season, day and coverage.
