Landscape and location

The Peak District is the obvious draw for photographers in the East Midlands. Gritstone edges, dales and moorland in Derbyshire make for big, atmospheric portraits, though the weather on high ground can be unpredictable. Elsewhere, Sherwood Forest, Rutland Water, the Lincolnshire Wolds and the older streets of Lincoln all offer quite different looks.

If you would like portraits away from your venue, talk to your photographer early about travel time and whether the location needs permission. Some estates and parks have their own rules for professional photography.

Light through the year

Summer brings long evenings, which suits relaxed portraits after the meal. Autumn colour in the Peak District and on country estates can be beautiful, though days are shorter. In winter, plan portraits soon after the ceremony to make use of daylight.

Experienced photographers in the region are often booked a year or more in advance for summer weekends. Ask to see full galleries from venues similar to yours, check what happens if your day runs over, and find out when you will receive your photos. Prices vary with the day, season and hours of coverage.
