Simple, Beautiful Wedding Photography
Chester has one of the most complete sets of Roman and medieval city walls in Britain, and walking them gives photographers a changing view of rooftops, the cathedral and the racecourse below. Inside the walls, the black-and-white galleried Rows and the Eastgate Clock are among the city's best-known sights.
Down by the River Dee, the Groves offer a tree-lined promenade with boats and a bandstand, and the old Dee Bridge and weir add more options. The Roman amphitheatre, close to the walls, has an unusual, historic feel.
The centre is popular with visitors, and race days can bring large crowds and heavy demand for accommodation. Check the racing calendar before you fix a date, and consider early or weekday portrait sessions if you want quieter streets.
Spring and autumn bring gentle light on the old buildings. Summer evenings along the river are lovely for golden-hour portraits. In winter, daylight is short, so earlier ceremonies help.
The cathedral precinct, some gardens and historic sites may ask for professional photography to be arranged beforehand. Walls and riverside paths are public, but narrow in places.
Photographers from across Cheshire, Merseyside and North Wales cover Chester. Aim to book a year or more ahead for a popular Saturday.
